What is Church Ministry about?

Many people have questions about church & church  ministry.  What is a ministry?  Why should I get involved? How can I get involved?  This will provide a brief overview to answering these questions.

Ministry begins in the local church, and ministry is done by serving other people.  There is a specific purpose to serving, and that is to draw people closer to God.  Ministry seeks another person's benefit in their walk with God.  Paul told the church at Philippi to esteem (or put first) other better than themselves.  This is the heart of ministry.

So why should you get involved in ministry?  Jesus gave us an example as He took time to wash His disciples feet saying, "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet." (John 13:14) Jesus showed to us that all of us should serve each other.  We are to be like Christ, as Christians, so we ought to behave the same way He would.

We know more about what ministry is and why we should get involved, but how can we get involved?  The first thing necessary for serving in a Ministry is being a saved, baptized member of Temple Baptist Church.  God designed that all ministry should be done by those of that church.  Secondly, it is important to be faithful to God's house.  Proverbs asks, "...but a faithful man, who can find?"  Serving in a ministry needs faithfulness.  Finally, getting involved in a ministry requires prayer about where God would have you to serve and talking with Pastor Howerton about how to get involved.

Ministry is very important to God, and is very important to the life of a church.  Our world needs people who are servant-leaders.  People who will give up what they want and help others instead!
